Dragons will take on the Miners in 53rd MWB Game!

The Mineral Water Bowl Committee has announced the teams to participate in the 53rd Mineral Water Bowl game to be held Saturday December 1st, 2018 at Tiger Stadium in Excelsior Springs, MO.  Kickoff is schedule for 12:00pm (Noon). The Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons (Moorhead MN) 8-3 tied for 3rd in the NSIC Conference vs the Missouri S & T Miners (Rolla MO) 9-2, 2nd place in the GLVC Conference.

MSUM will be making their first trip to the Mineral Water Bowl and first post season appearance since 1994.

The Dragons are coached by Steve Laqua in his eighth year at the helm. Coach Laqua has helped in restoring the Dragon football program to its past glory.

The Dragons offense comes in averaging 28.4 points per game and 240.9 yards of total offense. QB’s SO Jakup Sinani has 1504 yards and 11TD’s passing and JR Bryce Meehl with 1143 and 6TD’s. Running back SO Zach Simons leads the ground attack with 523 yards and 14 TD’s rushing. Wide receiver SO Jake Richter leads the team in receiving with 1052 yards and 10 TD’s.  

On the defensive side of the ball the Dragons are only giving up 28.4 points per game. SR DB Aaron Doan leads the team in tackles with 86 and sack leader SO DL Darius Woods-Steichen 11 sacks and 8 ½ TFL’s. JR Deiondre Taylor has 3 interceptions to lead the defensive backfield.

The Miners will also be making their first trip to the Mineral Water Bowl and first post season appearance since 1950.

The Miners Head Coach in is 5th year is Tyler Fenwick who became just the 19th head coach in the history of the program and seventh since 1937.

The Miner offense comes in to the Bowl averaging 32.5 points per game and 387.5 yards of total offense. SR QB Tyler Swart leads the offense with 2724 yards passing and 25 TD’s. His favorite target thru the air is SR Braxton Graham with 975 yards and 13 TD’s along with one punt return for a TD. The running attack is led by JR Deshawn Jones with 718 yards and 7TD’s.

The Miners defense is only giving up 20.9 points per game coming in to the Bowl. SR Landon Compton 92 tackles and 20 tackles for a loss and SR Bo Brooks with 20 TFL’s and 10 sacks leads the stout Miner defense.
